Equipment

  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • Whisk or hand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cookie scoop or spoon
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 226g unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup 150g granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup 165g packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups 280g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups 340g semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Baking Sheet

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent the cookies from sticking.

Cream the Butter and Sugars

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Use a hand mixer or a whisk to beat the mixture until it’s light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes.

Add the Eggs

  • Once the butter and sugar mixture is smooth, add the eggs one at a time. Beat well after each addition to ensure the eggs are fully incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients while stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula. Mix until the dough comes together.

Fold in the Chocolate Chips

  • Now comes the fun part! Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough. Be sure not to overmix, as this can affect the texture of the cookies.

Scoop the Dough

  • Using a cookie scoop or a tablespoon, portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave about 2 inches between each scoop to give the cookies room to spread as they bake.

Bake the Cookies

  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until they’re golden brown around the edges but still soft in the center. Keep an eye on them towards the end, as oven temperatures may vary.

Cool the Cookies

  • Once the cookies are baked to perfection, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. After that, transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
